 ELIGIBILITY:

Students in grades 9 - 12 whose directors are currently members of LMEA are eligible to audition.  A student auditioning for the All-State Choir must be a member of the school's choral music program.  In a situation where there is no program in the school, the student must be certified by the eligible music teacher at the school (LMEA membership required) or a private teacher (LMEA membership required).

There are two All-State Choirs that perform during the annual LMEA conference – the mixed choir, with approximately 160 members and the women's choir (SSAA), with 60 members.  For women, their ranking in the 2nd round auditions will determine which choir she will participate in.  Although students are eligible for membership in only one All-State ensemble, an exception is made for vocalists who audition for and are selected to perform with the jazz ensemble. The choirs traditionally performs the end of the week prior to Thanksgiving.

 1st ROUND AUDITION DATES, FEES, AND LOCATIONS:

1st round All-State Honor Choir auditions:

Date:	September 17, 2011
Place:	Southeastern La. University, Pottle Music Building Registration table is in the choir room.
Time:	Times for schools will be assigned after the registration deadline.
Fee:	• $10.00 per entry • Students - Fees should be paid to the student's school.   • Directors - A single school check, payable to L.M.E.A. District IX Vocal Account, must be mailed to Melanie St. Cyr, Slidell High School, #1 Tiger Dr., Slidell, LA  70458. Include a copy of the registration form.
Registration Form:	• Directors should send a hard copy of the registration form with the fees to Melanie St. Cyr. • Directors must also email the registration form to Melanie St. Cyr at melanie.st.cyr@stpsb.org by the deadline so that your students will be scheduled for audition times.
Deadline:	Registration form and check must be postmarked by 8/26/11.
Late Fee:	Be aware that schools will be assessed a $50.00 late fee if the postmark deadline is not met (as voted on by L.M.E.A. District IX members).  Students who are registered late will be assigned whatever times are still available.  All late entries must be received at least 5 days prior to an event.

 1st ROUND AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:

NOTE:  There is a different prepared piece for 2nd Round. See below.

Prepared Piece - Students are required to prepare the appropriate voice part (SSAATTBB) of the 1st round performance selection as listed below.  They will audition using the CD* track that omits their voice part.

  2007 – “O Vos Omnes” by Pablo Casals, Tetra Music – TC128. This is to be sung in Latin.

2008 – “Let All the Nations Praise the Lord” by Leisring, arr. Hoggard, Shawnee Press – A0094 This is to be sung in English.

  2009 – “Richte Mich, Gott” by Mendelssohn, arr. Jerry Wesley Harris, Alfred Pub. This is to be sung in German.

2010 – "Crucifixus" by Lotti (SSAATTBB), Walton Music Corp. – OCTW6006 

2011 – "Heilig" (Holy) by Mendelssohn (for double choir), Walton Music Corp. – W2163. This is to be sung in German.

Students will be adjudicated as follows:
Intonation - 25 pts.
Part accuracy - 25 pts.
Tone quality - 25 pts.
Musicianship - 15 pts.
Sightreading - 10 pts.  
(Total 100 pts.)

Sightreading is required.

 AUDITION RESULTS:

First round will be posted as soon as available - usually the night of auditions. Click on "Audition Results" in the navagation bar on the left.

Each district is allowed to send their top 5 students per part to 2nd round auditions.

 2nd ROUND AUDITION DATES, FEES, AND LOCATIONS:

Help Session for 2nd Round All-State Choir Auditions - Students qualifying for 2^nd round auditions are invited to a workshop focusing on the 2nd round audition piece and on sight reading in preparation for this audition. They should come knowing their music.

Time:	Bring a picture ID.  Registration and audition times TBA.

 2nd ROUND AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:

Prepared Piece - There will be a different required performance selection for 2nd round - it is listed below.  This piece, in SSAATTBB, will be selected from the current All-State Program by the Vocal Division Chairperson and the All-State Conductor. Students will audition using the CD* track that omits their voice part.

Note:  Directors can pick up a copy of the rehearsal/audition CD at 1st round.

Sightreading is required.  The sight-reading track that will be used in the audition is on the "audition CD."  Students should become familiar with the appropriate voice part's sight-reading track.
