ELIGIBILITY:
Students in grades
9 - 12 whose directors are current members of LMEA are
eligible to audition. A student auditioning for
the District Honor Jazz Band must be a member of the school's instrumental
music program.

as described below.

Scales - Wind
players are responsible for preparing all major scales through
four (4) sharps and four (4) flats as well as the chromatic
scale the full range of their instrument. Click
"scales" for a chart listing the octave, tempo, and articulation requirements for ALL instruments
or click on an instrument below for an individual scale sheet in
PDF format:

Rhythm
players
should play all major scales through four (4) sharps and four (4) flats.
Bass and guitar players should play their chromatic scale beginning
on low E; piano players should play their chromatic scale two octaves
starting on any pitch.
Prepared
Selections -
All audition material can be found in the Jazz Conception
series by Jim Snidero, published by Advance Music. There are
individual books, which include the CD, for each instrument. Alto
and bari saxophone use the same book; tenor saxophone uses a different
book. Tenor and bass rombones also use separate books.
Sight
Reading - All
students will be required to sight read a short piece.
AUDITION
RESULTS:
Audition
results will be posted as soon as available - usually the night
of auditions. Click on "Audition Results" in the navagation
bar on the left.
