 ELIGIBILITY:

Students in grades 7-8 whose directors are current members of LMEA are eligible to audition. A student auditioning for the District Honor Jazz Band must be a member of the school's instrumental music program.   

 AUDITION DATES, FEES, AND LOCATIONS:

Jr. Hi. Honor Jazz Band auditions:

Fontainebleau High

Time:

Jr. High will audition first beginning at 9:00 AM, followed by high
  school

Fee: 

$10.00 per audition

Students auditioning on more than one instrument must pay the fee for each instrument.

Fees should be paid to the student's school.  A single school check, payable to L.M.E.A. District IX, must be mailed by the deadline to: Val Estoque, Slidell High School, #1 Tiger Dr., Slidell, LA  70458. 

Registration Form:

Directors should send a copy of the registration form with the fees to Val Estoque.

Directors must also email the registration form to Lee Hicks at ralph.hicks@stpsb.org by the deadline so that your students will be scheduled for audition times.

Deadline: 

December 7, 2011

Be aware that schools will be assessed a $50.00 late fee if this deadline is not met. Students who are registered late will be assigned whatever times are still available.

 AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:

District Honor Jazz Band auditions include scales, prepared selections, and sight reading as described below.

Rhythm players are responsible for preparing six (6) major scales - concert G, C, F, Bb, Eb, and Ab - and the chromatic scale two octaves.

 

circle07_red.gifPrepared Selections - All audition material except drums can be found in the Easy Jazz Conception series by Jim Snidero, published by Advance Music. There are individual books which include the CD for each instrument. Alto and bari saxophone use the same book; tenor saxophone uses a different book. Students will audition with the accompaniment track.

 

Audition material for drums can be found in the Standard of Excellence Jazz Ensemble Method Drums book by Dean Sorenson & Bruce Pearson.
