THE ENSEMBLES:

There are six All-State ensembles that perform annually during the LMEA conference, traditionally held during the early part of the Thanksgiving week. Student membership in these ensembles numbers approximately as follows:

Symphonic band - 60

Concert band - 80

Choir - 160

Women's Chorus - 60

Jazz Ensemble - 20

Orchestra -100

ELIGIBILITY:

Students in grades 9 - 12 whose directors are current members of LMEA are eligible to audition. A student auditioning for the All-State Band must be a member of the school's instrumental music program. In a situation where there is no program in the school, the student must be certified by the eligible music teacher at the school or an LMEA-member private teacher.

AUDITION DATES AND LOCATIONS:

Each of the nine LMEA Districts holds a district level (1st round) audition during the first part of September to determine which students will qualify for the state level (2nd round) audition. The 2nd round audition is held on the second Saturday of October. Audition locations alternate between alternate between Lafayette High (2011) and Pineville High (2012).

1st Round Auditions:
Band* &	September 17, 2011 at Southeastern La. University, Pottle Music Building
Choir**	September 17, 2011 at Southeastern La. University, Pottle Music Building
Jazz	None - all jazz students audition at 2nd round only
Orchestra***	September 15, 2011 at Fontainebleau Jr. High beginning at 4:00 - String players' auditions will be recorded. The CDs of those selected at the district level will be submitted to the state chairperson for further adjudication and selection to the All-State Orchestra.

2nd Round Auditions:
Band*	October 8, 2011 at Lafayette High
Choir**	October 8, 2011 at Lafayette High
Jazz	October 8, 2011 at Lafayette High
Orchestra***	none - Auditions for chair placement will be held on the day of the first All-State rehearsal.

* The Symphonic Band and the Concert Band use the same audition material. A student's audition score will determine which ensemble he/she will be placed in.
There are different pieces for 1st and 2nd round choir auditions. Audition scores will determine whether girls will be placed in the Mixed Choir or the Women's Chorus**.
* Wind and percussions players for the Orchestra will be selected from students auditioning for 2nd round band. A student's audition score and/or placement request will determine which ensemble he or she will be placed in. Note:** Only seniors may make a placement request.
